There are several open-air museums in Slovenia, and they offer a view of country life in past centuries. They also help you learn about the various features of vernacular architecture. The biggest such museum is in
Rogatec, and it is a nationally important cultural monument, presenting the typical architecture of eastern Slovenia. There are also well-established open-air museums at the
Pleterje Charterhouse and near
Semič. Meanwhile the Soča River region is itself a natural museum. You can still view numerous reminders of the
Soča Front and First World War battles. Through these sites runs a
Path of Peace.
